About This Project
When it came to creating a highly controllable clean room for one of our largest clients, the Kroeschell team went to work building a room that would exceed expectations in every way.
A client’s factory contained a dilapidated area known as “the black dungeon” and they needed to transform this area of the facility into a clean room with an environmental protocol of 50,000 parts per million (ppm).
This challenging project needed to be completed quickly and within the demanding cleanroom constraints set forth by our client. Kroeschell drew up a plan to create a highly controllable clean room that would exceed expectations.
Starting from the ground up, the Kroeschell team turned “the black dungeon” into a state-of-the-art clean room in just under four months. Certain detailed construction protocol created a challenging environment. Examples of this include prohibited cardboard and wood in the room, and, during machine moves, the wheels of the forklifts had to be taped.
When the room was complete, Kroeschell had installed the following features to control the environment:
- block walls
- acoustic tiles
- special flooring
- clean room lighting
- a fire control system
- a drop ceiling
- an air lock at the end of the room
- a special changing area
To provide even greater environmental control, two massive air handlers were airlifted in and installed on the roof.
Not only was the project completed on time and under budget, it also exceeded the 50,000-ppm protocol required by the client. Post-construction tests indicated that the Kroeschell-built clean room achieved 2,000 ppm. For comparison purposes, the environmental protocol for surgery is 10,000 ppm. This allowed our client the option to expand their production to include more environmentally sensitive products, like microchips.
