Preventative Maintenance Program Protects Field Museum’s Priceless Collection

Learn how Kroeschell’s expert technicians used climate control to preserve the museum’s irreplaceable artifacts.

About this project

Through a preventive maintenance program and selective downtime, Kroeschell provided unsurpassed service and support to the Field Museum for more than 60 years.

Challenge

The Field Museum is home to irreplaceable artifacts and priceless collections that require an extremely controlled environment to maintain their sensitive state. The museum needed to implement a strict climate control system throughout the building, which not only takes into account the fragile pieces but also provides a comfortable environment for the few hundred to several thousand visitors that the museum hosts each day.

Solution

Due to the complexity of the Field Museum’s many different needs, Kroeschell developed a customized climate control program.

The maintenance program included service on:

  • Boilers
  • Pumps
  • Chillers
  • Air handlers
  • Plumbing
  • Building automation, etc.

Together, this equipment maintains very precise humidity and temperature tolerances in the museum. Kroeschell also developed a preventive maintenance program consisting of monthly inspections and selective downtime. The program prevented unexpected system downtime or failure.

Results

For more than 60 years, Kroeschell provided service and support to the Field Museum. During that time, no major emergencies or safety issues occurred.
